ICCAIA warmly welcomes the agreement reached by ICAO Member States today at the Third Conference on Aviation Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3) in Dubai and congratulates ICAO on achieving a successful outcome. The text not only reaffirms the commitment to the Long-Term Aspirational Goal (LTAG) of Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050 but also presents the international civil aviation sector with a strong opportunity to demonstrate climate action at the COP28 meeting starting in Dubai on November 30th.
ICCAIA applauds the inclusion of a goal in the ICAO agreement for carbon from fuels to be reduced by 5%. This aligns with our submission to the pre-CAAF meeting held in Montreal this past September when we strongly advocated for a goal of not less than 5% carbon intensity reduction by 2030. The agreement sends a strong signal to both the financial and energy sectors that the energy transition is inevitable and, together with the included financing measures demonstrates that rapid investment in Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) infrastructure is warranted.
